AT A GLANCE

A large V-formation of amber lights performed a slow pass over the New York Harbor area on July 14, 2001, observed by hundreds of New Jersey and New York residents. Multiple video recordings captured the formation from different vantage points across the Hudson River area. Police departments in multiple NJ municipalities received calls. FAA radar at Newark Airport showed no transponder returns for the objects. The event occurred just 58 days before the September 11, 2001 attacks, in restricted airspace.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On July 14, 2001, approximately 12:40 am, a large V-shaped formation of amber or orange lights moved silently over the Carteret and Woodbridge areas of New Jersey, observed by hundreds of witnesses looking across to New York Harbor. The formation performed a slow pass at an estimated altitude between 3,000 and 8,000 feet, with the lights appearing to be part of a single structured craft. Multiple residents who happened to have cameras captured video footage from different locations across the area, allowing triangulation analysis. Police departments in Carteret, Woodbridge, and other municipalities were called by residents. FAA radar controllers at Newark Liberty International Airport confirmed they saw no transponder returns in that area at that time. The event attracted significant local media coverage and investigative interest because it occurred over the New York Harbor area — heavily restricted airspace — just 58 days before the September 11, 2001 attacks. The combination of multiple independent video recordings from different locations, police corroboration, and the post-9/11 renewed sensitivity to airspace incursions made the Carteret event one of the most thoroughly documented large-formation UAP cases on the US East Coast.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • Multiple independent video recordings from different geographic vantage points
  • Hundreds of witnesses across New Jersey and New York
  • FAA Newark radar confirmed no transponder returns in area
  • Occurred in restricted New York Harbor airspace 58 days before 9/11
  • V-formation over populated metropolitan area — exceptional number of observers
  • Police departments in multiple municipalities received simultaneous calls

Phoenix Lights — Mass Sighting Multiple Events 1997

Phoenix Metro Area, Arizona

The March 13, 1997 Phoenix Lights event involved two distinct phenomena over Arizona: a massive V-shaped formation of lights that traversed the state from north to south — observed by tens of thousands over several hours — and a separate cluster of stationary lights over Phoenix itself. Then-Governor Fife Symington initially ridiculed the events, but years later admitted he personally witnessed the V-formation and described it as otherworldly. Numerous military and law enforcement witnesses have corroborated the formation.

Homestead AFB Encounter 1993

Homestead Air Force Base, Florida

A large triangular craft hovered over Homestead AFB for 25 minutes shortly after Hurricane Andrew's devastation. F-16 pilots scrambled to intercept but reported complete sensor and weapon system failures when approaching. The base was still largely inoperative from the hurricane.
