AT A GLANCE

A large triangular craft hovered over Homestead AFB for 25 minutes shortly after Hurricane Andrew's devastation. F-16 pilots scrambled to intercept but reported complete sensor and weapon system failures when approaching. The base was still largely inoperative from the hurricane.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On November 18, 1993, approximately fourteen months after Hurricane Andrew devastated Homestead AFB, a large triangular craft with bright lights at each vertex hovered over the partially-rebuilt base for 25 minutes. Tower controllers observed the craft on radar and visually. F-16 pilots on alert status were scrambled from the temporary flight operations area. As the intercepting aircraft approached, pilots reported complete sensor failures — radar, IFF transponder, and targeting systems all went offline. The craft was estimated at 300 feet per side and made no sound despite its size and proximity. After 25 minutes it accelerated vertically at impossible speed and vanished. The incident occurred at a time when Homestead's complement of classified experimental aircraft had been relocated post-hurricane, suggesting the craft may have been conducting reconnaissance of the damaged facility. Multiple military witnesses filed classified reports. The incident was never publicly acknowledged by the Air Force.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • 300-foot triangular estimate
  • Complete sensor system failure
  • 25-minute sustained hover
  • Vertical acceleration disappearance

Eglin AFB Triangle Overflight 1989

Eglin Air Force Base, Florida

A massive equilateral triangle hovered over Eglin AFB's classified research ranges for 35 minutes. F-15 interceptors were scrambled but pilots reported communications and weapons systems failures during approach. The craft departed vertically with no sound or exhaust signature.

Connecticut Electric Power System Anomaly 1987

New Haven County, Connecticut

A large triangular craft was observed causing power anomalies in the Northeast Utilities power grid in New Haven County. Police officers from multiple agencies observed the craft. Northeast Utilities engineers who responded to the grid anomalies independently observed the same craft. The FAA received reports from commercial pilots in the area. The power grid anomaly was documented in utility records.

Hudson Valley Wave — Thousands of Witnesses 1983–86

Hudson Valley, New York

One of the largest mass UAP observation events in US history, occurring over the Hudson Valley of New York and Connecticut from 1983 to 1987. More than 5000 individuals reported observing a massive boomerang or triangular formation of lights — often described as a city-block-sized craft moving silently — performing low-altitude, slow-speed maneuvers. Police, doctors, engineers, and IBM computer scientists were among witnesses. The New York Power Authority reported it approaching the Indian Point nuclear plant.
