AT A GLANCE

Argentine Air Force A-4AR interceptors tracked a large black triangle over the Buenos Aires metropolitan area. Ezeiza International Airport ATC tracked the contact on approach control radar. Argentina's Comisión de Investigación de Fenómenos Aeronáuticos Inexplicados (CEFAE) investigated and rated the case as unexplained. Argentine civil aviation regulatory body ANAC filed a formal report.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On June 12, 2002, Argentine Air Force A-4AR Fightinghawk fighters operating from Base Aérea Tandil were scrambled after Buenos Aires ATC detected an unidentified contact over the metropolitan area. Ezeiza International Airport approach control tracked the contact simultaneously on ATC radar at low altitude over the densely populated Buenos Aires conurbation. A-4AR crews achieved visual contact with a large black triangular craft with lights at its corners hovering and moving slowly over the city at approximately 500 feet. The craft departed rapidly after the interceptors closed to within 5 miles. Argentina's Commission for the Investigation of Inexplicable Aeronautical Phenomena (CEFAE) conducted a formal investigation and rated the case as unexplained after eliminating all prosaic hypotheses. Argentine civil aviation authority ANAC filed a formal report. The encounter over Argentina's capital city was considered a significant aviation safety matter in addition to its security dimensions.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • Buenos Aires ATC and Ezeiza International Airport dual radar confirmation

  • Argentine CEFAE official investigation: rated unexplained
  • ANAC civil aviation authority filed formal report
  • A-4AR achieved visual contact at 5-mile range
  • Official Argentine dual-agency investigation and rating

Hudson Valley Boomerang Wave 1982-1986

Hudson Valley, New York

Over 5,000 witnesses across New York's Hudson Valley reported a massive boomerang or V-shaped craft between 1982 and 1986. The object repeatedly hovered over densely populated suburban areas at low altitude with no sound. Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant security filed official reports on multiple occasions. FAA's Albany center received reports. Researchers J. Allen Hynek and Phil Imbrogno conducted ground-level investigation.

Nevada Triangle Overflight Pattern 1990

Nevada, Interstate 15 corridor

Beginning in late 1990, a sustained pattern of large triangular craft sightings along Nevada's Interstate 15 corridor and near the Nevada Test Site emerged. Rachel, Nevada — adjacent to Area 51 — became a hub for witnesses. Highway Patrol logs documented hundreds of sightings over months.

Phoenix Lights Full Investigation 1997

Phoenix, Arizona

The Phoenix Lights involved two distinct events: a massive V-formation over Nevada and Arizona observed by thousands, and stationary lights over Phoenix. The Arizona Governor initially mocked the event but years later admitted he personally witnessed the first formation and was left with no explanation.
