AT A GLANCE

The March 13, 1997 Phoenix Lights event involved two distinct phenomena over Arizona: a massive V-shaped formation of lights that traversed the state from north to south — observed by tens of thousands over several hours — and a separate cluster of stationary lights over Phoenix itself. Then-Governor Fife Symington initially ridiculed the events, but years later admitted he personally witnessed the V-formation and described it as otherworldly. Numerous military and law enforcement witnesses have corroborated the formation.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On the evening of March 13, 1997, Arizona experienced one of the largest and most documented mass UAP events in US history. Two distinct phenomena occurred: an enormous V-shaped formation of lights, estimated by witnesses to be over a mile wide, moved from Henderson, Nevada southward through Arizona over the course of several hours, observed by tens of thousands of people across the state from Prescott through Phoenix to Tucson. The formation moved slowly and silently. A separate phenomenon — a cluster of stationary amber lights — appeared over Phoenix later in the evening and was filmed by multiple residents. Arizona Governor Fife Symington held a press conference the following week in which he produced a staffer dressed in an alien costume — widely criticized as mocking the witnesses. A decade later, Symington publicly reversed position, stating that he himself had seen the V-formation from his home and described it as 'otherworldly,' and that he had made inquiries through military channels that produced no satisfactory explanation. Military witnesses from Luke AFB and Luke's F-16 wing declined to comment officially. The Phoenix Lights remain the most witnessed UAP event in US history and became a reference benchmark for mass UAP observation events globally.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • V-formation over mile wide observed by tens of thousands across Arizona over hours
  • Governor Symington reversed position: admitted personal observation and described it as otherworldly
  • Two distinct phenomena: moving V-formation plus stationary Phoenix cluster
  • Both events filmed independently by hundreds of residents
  • Military witnesses from Luke AFB present — officially declined to comment
  • Most witnessed UAP event in US history — benchmark mass observation event

New Jersey Triangle — Video and Police Reports 2001

Carteret, New Jersey

A large V-formation of amber lights performed a slow pass over the New York Harbor area on July 14, 2001, observed by hundreds of New Jersey and New York residents. Multiple video recordings captured the formation from different vantage points across the Hudson River area. Police departments in multiple NJ municipalities received calls. FAA radar at Newark Airport showed no transponder returns for the objects. The event occurred just 58 days before the September 11, 2001 attacks, in restricted airspace.
