AT A GLANCE

Night watchman Yalcin Yalman captured multiple videos of disc-shaped craft over the Marmara Sea from the Kumburgaz holiday village on multiple occasions in 2008 and 2009. The footage was submitted to the Turkish Scientific and Technical Research Council (TUBITAK) for analysis. TUBITAK concluded the footage could not be explained by conventional phenomena. Turkey's National Council of Physical Sciences issued a statement about the footage.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

Between May 2008 and September 2009, Yalcin Yalman, a night watchman at the Yeni Kent Compound holiday village in Kumburgaz on the Marmara Sea coast, captured multiple video recordings of disc-shaped objects over the water using a Sony camcorder with telescopic lens. The footage appears to show a structured craft with openings, internal features, and in some sequences what appear to be humanoid figures. The videos were submitted to the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) for analysis. TUBITAK's analysis concluded the footage appeared genuine and the objects could not be identified as known natural phenomena, conventional aircraft, or models. Turkey's National Council of Physical Sciences issued a statement regarding the case. The footage received international academic attention and was presented at multiple scientific conferences. The TUBITAK official government analysis makes the Kumburgaz case one of the few in which a government scientific body has formally evaluated video footage and concluded it depicts a genuine unidentified phenomenon.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • TUBITAK — Turkish government science council — formally analyzed footage
  • TUBITAK: footage genuine, objects unidentified
  • Turkey's National Council of Physical Sciences issued statement
  • Multiple separate recordings over 2-year period

  • Presented at international scientific conferences — academic evaluation
