Ariel School, Zimbabwe — 62 Children Witness Landing

On September 16, 1994, during the morning break at Ariel School in Ruwa, approximately 20 km east of Harare, Zimbabwe, 62 children between the ages of five and twelve witnessed a craft land in the scrubland area just beyond the school perimeter fence. The area was normally off-limits to students. The children observed a disc-shaped craft approximately 10–15 feet across, and between one and two entities with large black eyes and tight black suits, either on top of or near the craft. The entities appeared to stare at the children. The children subsequently had the shared perception that the entities were communicating — about environmental destruction and concern for the human world — though this was non-verbal. The children reported feeling fear and awe. Teachers arrived after the craft had departed. Headmaster Colin Mackie took the initial witness accounts. The Zimbabwe Institute of Mass Communication conducted immediate interviews. Harvard Medical School professor Dr. John Mack, a Pulitzer Prize-winning psychiatrist, traveled to Zimbabwe and conducted independent in-depth interviews with 12 of the children over two days. Mack concluded the children had experienced something that was genuinely outside normal experience; he found no evidence of group hysteria, fabrication, or psychological disturbance. The case was reported by BBC, CNN, and other international media. The children's accounts have remained consistent in follow-up interviews decades later.
