AT A GLANCE

Over 40 witnesses in the Stephenville, Texas area reported a massive object approximately one mile wide with white strobing lights flying low and silently in January 2008. F-16s pursued the object. FAA radar data obtained by MUFON through FOIA showed the object tracking toward the Crawford, Texas airspace — the location of President Bush's ranch — before military jets pursued.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On January 8, 2008, more than forty residents of the Stephenville, Texas area — including a constable, business owners, and experienced pilots — independently reported a massive, low-flying object with rows of white strobing lights moving silently across the evening sky. Witnesses described the object as approximately one mile wide. The FAA initially stated military aircraft were not operating in the area that evening; the Air Force subsequently reversed this statement, acknowledging ten F-16 fighters were operating in the area but declining to confirm whether they were pursuing the object. A FOIA request by the Mutual UFO Network obtained FAA radar data for the evening. Analysis of that radar data showed the unknown object tracking toward the Crawford, Texas area — location of President George W. Bush's Prairie Chapel Ranch. Military F-16 radar transponder returns were seen converging with the unknown object. The event generated significant media coverage and a subsequent Texas state congressional inquiry. The 2026 FAA archive release includes the original radar scope recordings and Stephenville ARTCC controller communications logs.
