AT A GLANCE

A Turkish security guard captured sustained telescopic video footage of an apparent disc-shaped craft with visible interior over the Marmara Sea across multiple nights in 2007–2008. Turkey's national science authority TÜBİTAK analyzed the footage and concluded it could not be explained.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

Over multiple nights in 2007 and 2008, Yalçın Yalman — a security guard at the Yeni Kent Compound in Kumburgaz near Istanbul — recorded extended telescopic video footage of unidentified craft hovering over the Marmara Sea. The footage, captured with a Sony night vision camcorder and a 200x zoom Meade telescope, shows what appears to be a structured disc-shaped object with clearly visible interior features including apparent windows and possible occupants. The footage was analyzed by the National Council for the Study of Science and Technology (TÜBİTAK), Turkey's premier scientific authority. TÜBİTAK concluded that the footage 'displayed a genuine UFO' that could not be explained by any conventional or natural phenomenon. The footage was entered into the 2007 International UFO Congress as the best UAP footage of the year. Multiple independent analysts at universities in Turkey, the United States, and Japan studied the footage without finding evidence of fabrication. The Turkish government did not officially comment on TÜBİTAK's conclusion.
