AT A GLANCE

A disc hovered over the Valley of the Kings at Luxor for 45 minutes, visible to the German archaeological expedition, Egyptian Antiquities Authority officers, and tourist police. Egyptian Air Force radar at Luxor Airport tracked the contact. Magnetometers at the German excavation showed anomalous readings during the encounter. Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities filed an internal report.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On March 12, 1998, during active German Egyptological excavations in the Valley of the Kings near Luxor, a metallic disc was observed hovering at approximately 200 feet altitude over the West Bank archaeological zone. German archaeologists, Egyptian Antiquities Authority staff, and tourist police all observed the craft simultaneously for approximately 45 minutes. Magnetometer equipment used in the excavation survey showed anomalous readings during the hover phase consistent with an electromagnetic field source. Luxor Airport's Egyptian Air Force radar detachment tracked an unidentified contact at the corresponding position. Egyptian tourist police photographed the object on film cameras. The Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities filed an internal report acknowledging the incident. US Embassy Cairo forwarded a consular report to State Department. The case is notable for the convergence of academic, government, and military witnesses at a single internationally significant cultural heritage site.

Turkey Kumburgaz Video Encounter 2008-2009

Kumburgaz, Marmara Sea, Turkey

Night watchman Yalcin Yalman captured multiple videos of disc-shaped craft over the Marmara Sea from the Kumburgaz holiday village on multiple occasions in 2008 and 2009. The footage was submitted to the Turkish Scientific and Technical Research Council (TUBITAK) for analysis. TUBITAK concluded the footage could not be explained by conventional phenomena. Turkey's National Council of Physical Sciences issued a statement about the footage.
