AT A GLANCE

One of the largest mass UAP observation events in US history, occurring over the Hudson Valley of New York and Connecticut from 1983 to 1987. More than 5000 individuals reported observing a massive boomerang or triangular formation of lights — often described as a city-block-sized craft moving silently — performing low-altitude, slow-speed maneuvers. Police, doctors, engineers, and IBM computer scientists were among witnesses. The New York Power Authority reported it approaching the Indian Point nuclear plant.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

Between 1983 and 1987, the Hudson Valley of New York and southwestern Connecticut became the scene of one of the most extensively documented mass UAP sighting events in North American history. More than 5000 individuals reported observing a massive V-shaped or boomerang formation of lights, with many describing an enormous solid craft beneath the lights that was described as larger than a football field — moving at near-stall speed with no detectable sound. The object repeatedly maneuvered over residential and commercial areas, often hovering at low altitude. A widely cited incident involved the craft's approach to the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant, where it was observed hovering over the facility by plant security and reported to the New York Power Authority. Researchers Dr. J. Allen Hynek, Philip Imbrogno, and Bob Pratt documented over 5000 witness testimonies from the region over the wave's four-year span. Witnesses included IBM engineers, physicians, police officers, and airline pilots — many of whom had never previously made UAP reports. The sheer number and quality of witnesses distinguishes the Hudson Valley wave as one of the most significant documented UAP events, though no official investigation was completed. Some skeptics proposed a formation of small aircraft explanation, which witnesses universally rejected as inconsistent with the observed craft's characteristics.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • Over 5000 documented witness reports over a 4-year span
  • Craft described as larger than football field — city-block-scale silent vehicle
  • Approached Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant, reported to NY Power Authority
  • Witnesses included IBM engineers, physicians, police, and airline pilots
  • V-boomerang formation at near-stall speed — no conventional aircraft can hover
  • Documented by Dr. J. Allen Hynek and team — 5000 testimonies collected

Connecticut Electric Power System Anomaly 1987

New Haven County, Connecticut

A large triangular craft was observed causing power anomalies in the Northeast Utilities power grid in New Haven County. Police officers from multiple agencies observed the craft. Northeast Utilities engineers who responded to the grid anomalies independently observed the same craft. The FAA received reports from commercial pilots in the area. The power grid anomaly was documented in utility records.

Homestead AFB Encounter 1993

Homestead Air Force Base, Florida

A large triangular craft hovered over Homestead AFB for 25 minutes shortly after Hurricane Andrew's devastation. F-16 pilots scrambled to intercept but reported complete sensor and weapon system failures when approaching. The base was still largely inoperative from the hurricane.

Nevada Triangle Overflight Pattern 1990

Nevada, Interstate 15 corridor

Beginning in late 1990, a sustained pattern of large triangular craft sightings along Nevada's Interstate 15 corridor and near the Nevada Test Site emerged. Rachel, Nevada — adjacent to Area 51 — became a hub for witnesses. Highway Patrol logs documented hundreds of sightings over months.
