AT A GLANCE

Nellis Air Force Base range tracking cameras captured video footage of a disc-shaped craft performing maneuvers over the classified Nevada Test and Training Range. The footage showed the craft with apparent surface features and a pulsing energy signature. The footage was leaked in 1994 and analyzed by multiple researchers. NBC News broadcast the footage. The Nellis footage represented some of the clearest government range camera UAP footage available in the 1990s.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

In May 1994, Nellis Air Force Base range tracking cameras — precision optics systems designed to track aircraft and weapons during test operations — captured footage of a disc-shaped craft performing maneuvers over the Nevada Test and Training Range, one of the most restricted airspace areas in the United States. The footage appeared to show a craft with surface features including a pulsing energy signature or electromagnetic corona. The footage was reportedly obtained from a Nellis Range Control operator and was leaked in 1994. NBC News broadcast the footage. Multiple researchers and the USAF's own unofficial analysis could not identify the craft in the footage as any known test vehicle. The footage's origins from calibrated military range tracking cameras — rather than a consumer camcorder — gave it technical credibility above most contemporaneous UAP footage. The Nellis range video was widely broadcast and analyzed throughout the 1990s.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • Calibrated military range tracking cameras — not consumer video
  • USAF range tracking camera footage from most restricted airspace in US
  • Surface features and pulsing energy signature visible
  • NBC News broadcast nationally after leak
  • Could not be identified as any known test vehicle
  • One of clearest 1990s government range camera UAP recordings

Coyne Army Helicopter Near-Miss Over Ohio

Mansfield, Ohio, USA

An Army Reserve UH-1 helicopter crew of four had a near-collision with a large grey metallic object over Mansfield, Ohio. The object stopped the helicopter's controlled descent and the aircraft inexplicably climbed 2,000 feet with no crew input. The incident is regarded as one of the most credible military UAP cases in the official record due to the four-person trained military crew and corroborating ground witnesses.

Pinecastle Air Force Base Sighting 1952

Pinecastle Air Force Base, Florida

A USAF B-29 crew returning to Pinecastle observed a large disc that executed a series of aerobatic maneuvers before hovering stationary as the bomber passed beneath it. Tower operators confirmed the radar contact. The disc paced the B-29 for several minutes before ascending vertically at extreme speed.

Gimbal UAP — Rotating Object Against the Wind

U.S. East Coast (Atlantic), ~100 miles offshore

An F/A-18 Super Hornet ATFLIR pod captured a disc-shaped object visibly rotating against the direction of wind at 25,000 feet. The object moved into the prevailing wind and appeared to rotate continuously with no visible means of propulsion. DoD officially released the FLIR footage in 2020; AARO lists it as unresolved.
