AT A GLANCE

A USAF B-29 crew returning to Pinecastle observed a large disc that executed a series of aerobatic maneuvers before hovering stationary as the bomber passed beneath it. Tower operators confirmed the radar contact. The disc paced the B-29 for several minutes before ascending vertically at extreme speed.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On February 27, 1952, a USAF B-29 Superfortress crew returning from a training mission to Pinecastle Air Force Base in Florida observed a large luminous disc executing aerobatic maneuvers in their vicinity. The aircraft commander and crew watched as the disc performed tight loops, instantaneous direction reversals, and then held a perfect stationary hover as the B-29 passed beneath it at 1,000 feet. Pinecastle tower operators confirmed the radar return. The disc was estimated at 60–80 feet in diameter with a metallic sheen and no visible propulsion. After pacing the B-29 for several minutes the disc executed a near-vertical departure, climbing to extreme altitude in under 10 seconds. The crew, experienced WWII veterans, filed a classified incident report under JANAP-146 protocols. Project Blue Book investigators rated the case 'unidentified' — one of the relatively rare cases where the Blue Book staff concluded no conventional explanation was adequate.

Coyne Army Helicopter Near-Miss Over Ohio

Mansfield, Ohio, USA

An Army Reserve UH-1 helicopter crew of four had a near-collision with a large grey metallic object over Mansfield, Ohio. The object stopped the helicopter's controlled descent and the aircraft inexplicably climbed 2,000 feet with no crew input. The incident is regarded as one of the most credible military UAP cases in the official record due to the four-person trained military crew and corroborating ground witnesses.

Gimbal UAP — Rotating Object Against the Wind

U.S. East Coast (Atlantic), ~100 miles offshore

An F/A-18 Super Hornet ATFLIR pod captured a disc-shaped object visibly rotating against the direction of wind at 25,000 feet. The object moved into the prevailing wind and appeared to rotate continuously with no visible means of propulsion. DoD officially released the FLIR footage in 2020; AARO lists it as unresolved.

Farmington New Mexico — Fleet of 500 Discs

Farmington, New Mexico, USA

Approximately 500 Farmington, New Mexico residents simultaneously observed a massive fleet of hundreds of disc-shaped objects flying in formation overhead for 30 minutes. Three local newspaper reporters independently witnessed the event and filed reports. The objects were documented at high altitude traveling at high speed in formation, with individual objects breaking formation and rejoining. Project Blue Book declined to investigate.
