On March 25, 1948, a large disc-shaped object reportedly made a soft landing in Hart Canyon near Aztec, New Mexico. The craft was initially discovered by local oil field workers before military authorities secured the site. Investigative journalist Frank Scully brought the case to public attention in his 1950 book 'Behind the Flying Saucers,' though official channels dismissed it as a hoax. Subsequent research, particularly by Scott Ramsey and others, uncovered significant supporting evidence including witness testimonies from oil workers, military personnel, and local officials. The craft was described as approximately 100 feet in diameter with a smooth metallic exterior and porthole-style windows. Documents obtained through FOIA requests suggest unusual military activity in the Aztec area during this period, consistent with a recovery operation.
