AT A GLANCE

Edwards AFB control tower controllers and multiple F-104 Starfighter test pilots observed a metallic disc maneuvering over the base at high altitude. The object was tracked visually by tower personnel and by pilots in flight. Project Blue Book investigated and logged the case as 'unidentified.' The encounter is notable for occurring at the USAF's primary aircraft test facility with multiple trained military aviators as witnesses.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

In October 1965, control tower personnel at Edwards Air Force Base — the USAF's premier flight test center — tracked a bright metallic disc-shaped object maneuvering at high altitude over the base. Multiple F-104 Starfighter pilots flying test missions in the area independently observed and reported the same object. The object hovered, then executed high-speed maneuvers inconsistent with any test aircraft then operating at Edwards, before disappearing instantaneously. Project Blue Book investigated the case and, despite the high-caliber aviation credentials of the witnesses and the sensitive nature of the location, logged it as 'unidentified.' The Edwards AFB location is significant: at the time of the sighting, the base was home to the X-15 rocket plane program, multiple classified reconnaissance aircraft projects, and astronaut training operations. Test pilots at Edwards are among the most experienced and observationally trained aviators in the world, making misidentification of a conventional aircraft highly unlikely.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • Metallic disc observed simultaneously by tower crew and multiple airborne F-104 pilots
  • Object maneuvered at high altitude over USAF's primary aircraft test facility
  • Project Blue Book logged case as 'unidentified'
  • Witnesses included some of the most experienced test pilots and controllers in the US Air Force
  • Edwards AFB was home to X-15, classified recon aircraft programs, and astronaut training at time of sighting
  • Object disappeared instantaneously — no fade-out or powered departure trajectory observed

Washington D.C. UFO Flap — Capitol Airspace

Washington D.C. / Capitol Airspace, USA

Multiple unidentified objects were tracked on radar at Washington National Airport and Andrews AFB on two separate weekends in July 1952. USAF interceptors were scrambled twice; objects vanished when jets arrived and returned when jets departed. This prompted the largest Air Force press conference since World War II and remains one of the best-documented mass radar UAP events in U.S. history.

Farmington New Mexico — Fleet of 500 Discs

Farmington, New Mexico, USA

Approximately 500 Farmington, New Mexico residents simultaneously observed a massive fleet of hundreds of disc-shaped objects flying in formation overhead for 30 minutes. Three local newspaper reporters independently witnessed the event and filed reports. The objects were documented at high altitude traveling at high speed in formation, with individual objects breaking formation and rejoining. Project Blue Book declined to investigate.
