DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On August 4, 1990, two hikers in the Scottish Highlands near Calvine, Perthshire photographed a large diamond-shaped metallic craft of approximately 25-30 meters hovering alongside an RAF Harrier jet. The photographs showed the diamond craft in clear daylight at close range. The witnesses submitted the photographs to the Scottish Daily Record newspaper. UK Ministry of Defence officials requested and obtained the original photographs, classifying them for 30 years. The case was handled by Nick Pope at the MoD. One journalist, Craig Lindsay, had secretly retained copies. In 2022, thirty-two years after the original encounter, the photographs were finally published by the Press Association — revealing what many researchers consider the clearest and most detailed daylight photographs of a UAP in British government archives. The diamond shape, the scale relative to the RAF Harrier, and the close-range daylight clarity made the Calvine photographs remarkable. The 30-year classification period ended automatically under UK declassification rules.
