DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On July 15, 1990, personnel at the Zhitkur nuclear test site in Kazakhstan — a facility of the Soviet Ministry of Medium Machine Building, the ministry responsible for the Soviet nuclear weapons program — observed a metallic disc hovering at 1,000 feet over the test site for 40 minutes. KGB guards and nuclear weapons program personnel observed the craft. The encounter was classified by the Ministry of Medium Machine Building and reported through KGB security channels. The Soviet Academy of Sciences UAP Commission, which investigated UAP incidents at Soviet military and industrial facilities in the 1980s, received a summary. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the encounter appeared in academic UAP literature published by former Soviet military scientists. The Zhitkur case is part of the documented pattern of UAP appearances over nuclear weapons design, production, and testing facilities that spans the US, Soviet, and other nuclear powers.

Soviet Sakhalin Island Military UAP 1978

Sakhalin Island, Soviet Far East

Soviet Air Defence Forces radar on Sakhalin Island — a strategically vital island between the Soviet mainland and Japan — tracked an unidentified disc for 20 minutes. Soviet interceptors were scrambled but failed to achieve radar lock. Soviet Pacific Fleet patrol vessels in the Sea of Okhotsk confirmed the contact from below. The PVO Strany (Soviet Air Defence) classified the encounter. Details emerged from PVO veterans after Soviet dissolution.
