DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On August 4, 1990, two civilian hikers near Calvine, Perthshire, Scotland photographed a large diamond-shaped craft hovering silently at low altitude. RAF jets were observed in the vicinity. The witnesses reported the craft for approximately 10 minutes before it rapidly accelerated vertically and disappeared. The photographs were submitted to the UK Ministry of Defence, which classified them SECRET and retained them. The MoD's Defence Intelligence Staff (DI55) conducted a technical analysis of the photographs. Their classified assessment concluded the object was between 25 and 100 metres in diameter and of 'unknown origin' — the assessment explicitly stated it was not a classified British, American, or allied aircraft program. The photographs remained SECRET for 32 years. They were due for routine release in 2072 under the 30+year rule but a copy was obtained by journalist David Clarke from a former MoD official and published in 2022, prompting the official National Archives release. The Calvine images are considered among the clearest and most technically analyzed UAP photographs in any government archive.
