AT A GLANCE

A large triangular UAP was observed by multiple RAF personnel at Cosford and Shawbury, Shropshire police officers, and a UK Meteorological Office official over the span of an hour in the early hours of March 31, 1993. The UK Ministry of Defence conducted a formal investigation and assessed the case as 'unexplained,' noting the objects were genuine and not conventional aircraft or atmospheric phenomena.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

In the early morning hours of March 31, 1993, a large triangular object was observed across a wide area of the English Midlands. At RAF Cosford, two RAF police officers on patrol observed a large craft with a pulsing white light moving at low altitude at high speed silently over the base. At RAF Shawbury, the base meteorological officer observed a similar craft from the officer's mess — he described a large triangular object projecting a narrow, laser-like beam to the ground. The meteorological officer's account is particularly significant as he was a trained scientific observer. Shropshire police also received reports of the object. The entire observation span covered approximately one hour. The UK Ministry of Defence (Sec(AS)2 branch, then headed by Nick Pope) conducted a formal investigation. The internal MoD assessment, released under the Freedom of Information Act, stated the objects were 'genuine' and that 'there are sufficient similarities between the two reports to conclude they were the same object.' The assessment further noted the object 'cannot be explained in terms of known aircraft, meteorological conditions or natural phenomena.' It was classified CONFIDENTIAL. The RAF Cosford/Shawbury case is considered the strongest officially documented UK UAP case in the post-Cold War period.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • Large triangular craft observed independently at two RAF bases and by police within one hour
  • RAF Shawbury Met officer — trained scientific observer — described narrow beam projected to ground
  • UK MOD formal assessment: 'cannot be explained in terms of known aircraft or natural phenomena'
  • Internal MoD report classified CONFIDENTIAL — released under FOI
  • Multiple independent trained military observers at different locations corroborate sighting
  • Considered strongest documented UK UAP case in official post-Cold War record

Belgian UFO Wave — NATO F-16 Pursuit

Belgium (Ardennes / Wavre region)

Over 13,500 witnesses reported a large triangular object with bright lights traversing Belgium over 18 months. Belgian Air Force F-16s achieved radar lock on the object twice; it accelerated from 280 mph to 1,100 mph in 2 seconds and descended from 10,000 ft to 1,000 ft in 5 seconds. The Belgian government publicly acknowledged and investigated the sightings. U.S. Embassy Brussels diplomatic cables are included in the 2026 archive release.
