DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

Beginning on New Year's Eve 1982 and continuing through 1986, a massive V-shaped or boomerang-shaped object was observed by thousands of witnesses across Westchester County, Rockland County, and Connecticut in the Hudson Valley region of New York. The object — estimated at 200–300 feet in span by numerous independent witnesses — was described as a slowly moving, completely silent craft with a pattern of white and colored lights arranged in a V or arc. FAA radar at Stewart International Airport confirmed unidentified radar returns during multiple sighting events. IBM employees at the Yorktown Heights campus, Connecticut state police officers, and an operator at the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant all filed formal reports. On multiple occasions, the object was observed hovering at low altitude over the Indian Point facility. A pilot flying for Mohawk Airlines reported the object nearly filling his windshield during a close approach. Despite over 7,000 documented reports gathered by researchers at the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies, Project Blue Book had been disbanded by 1969 and no formal government investigation was opened. The FAA radar confirmation records were obtained through FOIA and are in the public record.

O'Hare International Airport, Chicago, Illinois, USA

A metallic disc-shaped object was observed hovering silently over Gate C17 at O'Hare International Airport by over a dozen United Airlines employees and flight crew.
