AT A GLANCE

Farmer George Pedley observed a disc rise from a swamp lagoon in Far North Queensland, Australia, leaving a circular area of flattened and woven reeds 30 feet in diameter. The 'saucer nest' was investigated by Queensland Police and Queensland Department of Primary Industries. Multiple additional nests were subsequently found. The Tully saucer nest is considered the first documented crop circle incident associated with a UAP observation.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On January 19, 1966, farmer George Pedley was driving near a swamp lagoon on his property in Tully, Far North Queensland, when he observed a large disc rise from the water. The craft was making a spinning motion. After it departed, Pedley found a circular area in the lagoon where the reeds had been flattened and twisted in a circular pattern approximately 30 feet in diameter. The reeds were swirled outward from a center point and lay just below the water surface. Queensland Police investigated and photographed the 'saucer nest.' The Queensland Department of Primary Industries sent representatives to assess the unusual reed pattern. Over the following weeks, additional similar circles were found in the same area. The Tully saucer nest is documented as one of the first crop formation incidents directly associated with a witnessed UAP observation, predating the UK crop circle phenomenon by more than a decade.
