Australia Perth Naval Station UAP 1966

On October 19, 1966, a disc-shaped craft was observed hovering over the vicinity of the Royal Australian Navy's HF communications facility near Perth and HMAS Stirling naval base. Personnel at the facility reported the craft moving slowly around the perimeter of the naval communications infrastructure before hovering stationary for several minutes. RAAF Pearce Air Base radar tracked the contact. Perth City Police received multiple civilian reports from the Perth metropolitan area. The Royal Australian Navy duty officer filed a confidential incident report to RAAF Air Defence Command noting the proximity to naval communications infrastructure as a potential security concern. The Australian Department of Air conducted a preliminary investigation and included the incident in its classified UAP file collection alongside other Western Australian encounters. The co-location of the encounter with a sensitive naval HF station drew particular attention from naval intelligence staff.
