DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On June 26, 1959, and the following night, Anglican missionary Reverend William Gill and 37 members of his mission station in Boianai, Papua New Guinea observed a large disc-shaped craft with a superstructure and what appeared to be humanoid figures moving on its upper surface. The craft was low enough that Gill could clearly see the humanoid figures. Gill and the figures appeared to observe and wave at each other — an interaction that was simultaneously witnessed by all 37 present. Gill made detailed written notes the same evening, preserving contemporaneous accounts with high evidentiary value. Multiple separate appearances over two nights were recorded with up to 25 simultaneous witnesses at a time. The report reached Project Blue Book through the US Embassy in Port Moresby. Blue Book's Robertson Panel advisor Dr. J. Allen Hynek considered the case highly significant and met with Gill personally. The Boianai case is considered one of the most credible Pacific Region UAP encounters due to the volume of witnesses, the educated primary observer, and the contemporaneous written notes.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS

  • Humanoid figures visible on upper deck — mutual observation and waving
  • Contemporaneous written notes by Gill same evening
