Socorro, New Mexico — Lonnie Zamora Landing

Socorro, New Mexico, USA

Socorro police officer Lonnie Zamora observed a white oval craft with red insignia resting on legs in an arroyo, attended by two figures in white. He observed the craft take off with a roaring flame, become silent after 20 feet, and depart at high speed. Physical evidence — burned vegetation, soil compression, metal scrapings — was immediately confirmed by State Police and Army investigators. Project Blue Book listed this as 'unknown.'

Socorro Landing — USAF Project Blue Book Physical Evidence Report

Socorro, New Mexico, USA

Patrolman Lonnie Zamora observed a white egg-shaped craft land in the Socorro desert, observed two small figures near it, and watched it depart vertically. The physical evidence — four circular landing impressions, burned brush at four locations, and a rock with blue flame residue — was documented by USAF Project Blue Book investigators. Dr. J. Allen Hynek considered it his single best case. The landing impressions were formally measured and preserved. Classified CIA and USAF documents reference this case specifically.

Cuba MiG Shootdown Attempt 1964

Cuban airspace, Caribbean

Cuban Air Force radar detected a disc over Cuba shortly after the missile crisis. A MiG-21 pilot was ordered to fire — the cannon fired but the shells appeared to have no effect. The craft then accelerated vertically. US signals intelligence assets monitoring Cuban military communications captured the entire exchange.

Socorro Investigation Lonnie Zamora 1964

Socorro, New Mexico

The Socorro incident is considered the gold standard of physical trace evidence cases. Officer Zamora witnessed a craft take off, leaving burn marks and physical depressions USAF investigators were unable to explain. Project Blue Book ranked it as one of its best-documented unknowns.

Holloman AFB Oval Landing 1964

Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico

One day after Lonnie Zamora's Socorro encounter, a similar oval craft reportedly landed at Holloman AFB. The base commander was notified. The incident occurred in the same geographic region and the USAF classified the files at higher level than Socorro's Blue Book entry. The cases share striking physical similarities.

Socorro New Mexico Lonnie Zamora Encounter 1964

Socorro, New Mexico

Socorro Police Officer Lonnie Zamora observed an oval craft on legs in the desert with two humanoid figures. When he approached, the craft emitted a loud roar and departed. Physical evidence included scorched vegetation, burned soil, and four landing pad impressions. Project Blue Book investigator Dr. J. Allen Hynek called it 'the most authentic' case in the Blue Book files. FBI and Army Intelligence both investigated.

USS Forrestal Mediterranean Fleet Encounter 1964

Mediterranean Sea, Sixth Fleet operational area

USS Forrestal carrier airwing crews in the Mediterranean encountered a metallic disc performing maneuvers at 12,000 feet. Sixth Fleet radar tracked the contact. The encounter was handled through Sixth Fleet command channels and classified. The Forrestal case is part of the documented pattern of carrier strike group UAP encounters across all major US fleet operational areas in the 1960s.

Lonnie Zamora Socorro — Egg-Shaped Craft Landing 1964

Socorro, New Mexico

Project Blue Book's most credible unresolved case. Socorro police officer Lonnie Zamora observed an egg-shaped craft on legs with two figures in white coveralls near a desert arroyo. The craft departed with a roar and flame, leaving behind four physical landing impressions and charred vegetation. FBI and Army investigators found the physical evidence compelling. Project Blue Book director Hynek called it the strongest physical evidence case in the entire Blue Book record.

Vandenberg Titan II — UAP Disables ICBM Test 1964

Vandenberg Air Force Base, California

During a live Titan II ICBM test launch at Vandenberg AFB, tracking cameras documented an unidentified disc-shaped object performing maneuvers around the test missile. The object appeared to disable the test vehicle mid-flight. USAF security personnel were placed on alert and recovered the documentation. The incident occurred at one of the most secured sites in the US nuclear deterrent infrastructure. The documentation was classified above Top Secret.

Holloman AFB Landing — Officer Witness 1964

Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico

One day after the Socorro Zamora encounter 30 miles away, multiple reports emerged of a landing at Holloman AFB itself. A documentary film crew working at Holloman for a classified project captured footage of disc-shaped craft performing maneuvers near the base. Portions of this footage were later alleged to have been used in a documentary. The classified nature of the Holloman events meant official records were not disclosed, but multiple former USAF personnel described the events in later interviews.

Cody Wyoming — Police Officer Low Altitude Disc 1964

Cody, Wyoming

A Wyoming State Patrol officer and multiple civilian witnesses observed a metallic disc performing low-altitude maneuvers near Cody, Wyoming. The officer filed a formal report with the State Patrol and the USAF. The object was described as having a domed top with a rotating band around its middle, hovering silently before departing at high speed toward the Yellowstone region. The case contributed to the Project Blue Book caseload from the Yellowstone-Wyoming area during the mid-1960s activity cluster.
