On July 26, 1952 — the same night as the most dramatic Washington DC UAP overflights that would prompt Air Force General John Samford's extraordinary press conference — factory workers at Boeing's Wichita aircraft manufacturing plant observed a formation of disc-shaped objects performing coordinated maneuvers at 15,000–30,000 feet over the city. Wichita ATC controllers confirmed radar contacts. McConnell Air Force Base radar, which was on heightened alert due to the Washington situation, also tracked the formation. The timing — simultaneous with the peak of the 1952 wave on the same night Washington was being overflown — was considered highly significant by Blue Book analysts who noted the nationwide scope of the phenomenon on that date. The FBI's Wichita field office investigated and its report was cross-referenced in Blue Book files as part of the nationwide pattern documentation from July 26. Boeing workers were considered particularly credible witnesses given their aviation industry experience.
