DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On December 22, 2018, during USS Theodore Roosevelt's South China Sea freedom of navigation operations — a period of elevated US-China tensions — F/A-18 pilots and an E-2C Hawkeye early warning aircraft crew encountered multiple unidentified orbs performing coordinated maneuvers at 25,000 feet. The E-2C, equipped with advanced airborne radar designed to track hundreds of contacts simultaneously, obtained 35 minutes of detailed tracking data on the formation. The objects' flight profiles showed coordinated formation changes inconsistent with any known drone swarm technology, particularly in terms of sustained altitude performance and speed. The Roosevelt was operating in some of the most strategically sensitive waters on Earth, given ongoing South China Sea territorial disputes. The encounter was classified at elevated level given the geopolitical context. The E-2C tracking data was incorporated into AATIP's analytical database as a high-quality instrument-based encounter record, distinct from the typical crew testimony cases.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • E-2C airborne radar 35-minute track
  • South China Sea strategic context
  • Coordinated formation beyond known drone capability
  • AATIP high-quality instrument database entry
  • US-China tension geopolitical overlay

Korean War UAP Intercepts — USAF Combat Reports

Korean Peninsula and Yellow Sea, Korea

US Air Force and Navy combat pilots filed dozens of formal UAP encounter reports during the Korean War. B-29 bomber crews and fighter pilots described glowing orbs and structured craft performing extreme maneuvers in combat airspace. USAF Far East Air Force (FEAF) officially investigated and filed reports with Project Blue Book at Wright-Patterson AFB. Several cases were classified SECRET and are now available through NARA.

B-52 Arc Light Strike UAP 1967

North Vietnam, Strategic Bombing Theater

During an Arc Light B-52 strategic bombing mission over North Vietnam, multiple aircraft crews observed luminous orbs performing formation maneuvers at their operating altitude. The orbs appeared to shadow the B-52 formation. SAC mission controllers and an EC-121 SIGINT aircraft confirmed the contacts.

India Gujarat Coast Orb Series 2013

Bordi, Gujarat coast, India

Indian Coast Guard vessels patrolling the Gujarat coast reported multiple luminous orbs performing formation maneuvers near the coast for 35 minutes. The encounter coincided with a significant increase in unidentified aerial object reports from the Indian western coastal zone in 2013. Indian Navy Western Command received the report. The Gujarat encounters were part of the broader pattern of Indian UAP sightings that prompted the DRDO Ladakh monitoring program.
