AT A GLANCE

Over three nights, USAF security personnel at RAF Woodbridge reported a structured craft in Rendlesham Forest. Deputy Base Commander Lt. Col. DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

The Rendlesham Forest incident, documented in a formal memorandum from USAF Deputy Base Commander Lt. Col. Charles Halt to the UK Ministry of Defence, describes a structured non-terrestrial object that entered the airspace of an active NATO nuclear weapons storage facility over three consecutive nights. On December 26, 1980, USAF security personnel observed a craft land in Rendlesham Forest adjacent to the base; they described a triangular metallic object with blue and white lights. Ground indentations, broken branches, and radiation readings three times background level were measured and recorded. On December 28, Lt. Col. Halt personally led a team into the forest to investigate and recorded the entire event on audio tape. His recording captures him describing a moving light source that beamed down into the nuclear weapons storage area. Halt's official memorandum to the UK Ministry of Defence, released under FOIA, states the object 'manoeuvred through the trees and disappeared.' A 2026 DoD archive release includes previously classified NSA signals intelligence intercepts from the nights in question, with the content partially redacted, and a DIA routing note marked 'EYES ONLY' that acknowledges the event.

RAF Lakenheath — Radar-Visual Chase, UK

RAF Lakenheath / RAF Bentwaters, Suffolk, UK

Radar operators at RAF Bentwaters and Lakenheath tracked multiple unknown objects over East Anglia for several hours. A USAF Venom jet interceptor was guided by radar toward one object; the pilot briefly achieved visual contact, then the object moved behind the aircraft and mirrored its every turn — effectively pursuing the interceptor. The pilot could not shake the object through multiple violent maneuvers. The Scientific Advisory Panel (Robertson Panel) evaluated this case in 2026 archive release notes as 'unexplained.'

Loring AFB Nuclear Weapons Storage Overflight

Loring Air Force Base, Maine, USA

An unidentified helicopter-like object repeatedly overflew the nuclear weapons storage area at Loring AFB over several nights in October 1975. SAC headquarters issued an urgent classified message acknowledging the intrusions. Similar incidents occurred simultaneously at Wurtsmith, Malmstrom, Minot, and Canadian Forces Base Falconbridge — suggesting a coordinated operation against North American nuclear sites.
