AT A GLANCE

The complete Nimitz CSG encounter involved not just the Tic-Tac but multiple objects over several days, transmedium behavior, and USS Princeton tracking objects descending from 80,000 feet to sea level. Commander David Fravor's intercept was one engagement in a multi-day event involving dozens of witnesses.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

The full scope of the November 2004 Nimitz Carrier Strike Group encounters has been progressively revealed through declassified records and witness testimony over two decades. Beginning around November 10, 2004, USS Princeton's AN/SPY-1B radar began tracking multiple unidentified contacts that would descend from altitudes in excess of 80,000 feet — above the atmosphere — to sea level in seconds, linger briefly, and ascend again. Senior Chief Kevin Day tracked over 100 such contacts over several days before the intercept missions. On November 14, Commander David Fravor and Commander Jim Slaight in two F/A-18Fs were vectored to a contact and witnessed the Tic-Tac performing maneuvers that defied physics. A second intercept by Lieutenant Commander Alex Dietrich obtained FLIR video footage — the 'Nimitz FLIR' footage subsequently confirmed authentic by the Pentagon. The USS Nimitz's own Combat Camera team documented some aspects of the events. The objects demonstrated transmedium behavior, matching ship courses and speeds, and appeared aware of the intercept aircraft. The full classified incident report involved dozens of witnesses across multiple platforms and remains one of the most thoroughly documented UAP encounters in US Navy history.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • 100+ objects tracked over multiple days
  • 80,000-foot to sea-level descent in seconds
  • Pentagon-authenticated FLIR footage
  • Multiple simultaneous platform documentation
  • Objects showed awareness of intercept aircraft
