AT A GLANCE

In October 1886, nine members of a family in Maracaibo, Venezuela reported being awakened by a bright light and a humming sound from a luminous craft. All nine family members experienced physical symptoms: swelling, black blotches on skin, hair loss, and vomiting lasting days. The case was formally reported to the Maracaibo Scientific Society and documented by physician Dr. Beauperthuy. The report was published in the journal Science in January 1887 — the earliest documented UAP physical effects case in a peer-reviewed publication.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On October 24, 1886, a family of nine in Maracaibo, Venezuela reported being awakened at approximately 2 AM by a brilliant light and a buzzing or humming noise outside their house. A luminous craft was observed hovering near their house. The family reported feeling dazed. Within days, all nine family members developed similar symptoms: black blotches on the skin at areas of the body exposed to the light, swelling of the face and limbs, nausea and vomiting, and in the case of the father, temporary hair loss from his beard. The father and two children also reported temporary ringing in the ears. The family's symptoms lasted one to two weeks. The case was examined by physician Dr. Beauperthuy, who documented the symptoms formally. The report was submitted to the Maracaibo Scientific Society. The case was subsequently published in the American journal Science (Vol. 9, No. 214, January 7, 1887), authored by the US Consul at Maracaibo, Warner Cowgill. The symptoms described — particularly the skin blotches, hair loss, and radiation-like effects on exposed tissue — are consistent with exposure to ionizing or ultraviolet radiation, similar to physical effects documented in later cases such as Colares (1977) and Cash-Landrum (1980). The Science publication makes this the earliest formally published UAP physical effects case in peer-reviewed literature.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • Published in American journal Science (January 7, 1887) — earliest peer-reviewed UAP physical effects report
  • Nine family members all developed skin blotches, swelling, hair loss — consistent with radiation exposure
  • Formally documented by physician Dr. Beauperthuy and submitted to Maracaibo Scientific Society
  • Reported by US Consul at Maracaibo Warner Cowgill — official US diplomatic record
  • Physical symptom pattern parallels documented effects in Colares (1977) and Cash-Landrum (1980)
  • Earliest formally documented case of multiple-witness physical effects from UAP proximity

Transport Canada UAP Protocol — Official Reporting Framework

Canadian airspace — Transport Canada national jurisdiction

Transport Canada maintains an official UAP (referred to in Canadian aviation as 'UFO') reporting protocol for civil and military aviation personnel. Canada's National Research Council was among the earliest official bodies to formally investigate UAP reports (1950 onward). Canadian Department of National Defence records include hundreds of formally investigated cases. The Transport Canada UAP protocol makes Canada one of the only countries with an institutionalized civilian aviation reporting framework for UAP.

Loring AFB Nuclear Weapons Storage Overflight

Loring Air Force Base, Maine, USA

An unidentified helicopter-like object repeatedly overflew the nuclear weapons storage area at Loring AFB over several nights in October 1975. SAC headquarters issued an urgent classified message acknowledging the intrusions. Similar incidents occurred simultaneously at Wurtsmith, Malmstrom, Minot, and Canadian Forces Base Falconbridge — suggesting a coordinated operation against North American nuclear sites.
