AT A GLANCE

Iranian Air Force radar operators tracked an unidentified object performing maneuvers in restricted Tehran airspace. An F-14 Tomcat crew was scrambled to intercept. The crew reported the object demonstrating extreme speed and altitude changes. The Iranian Air Force's history of credible UAP encounters — the 1976 Tehran event being the most famous — continued with this documented 2018 incident, which was reported through defense intelligence channels and subsequently analyzed by regional aerospace observers.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On October 12, 2018, Iranian Air Defense radar operators tracking Tehran airspace detected an unidentified object performing maneuvers in restricted airspace. An Iranian Air Force F-14 Tomcat crew was scrambled to investigate. The crew reported tracking the object, which demonstrated extreme altitude changes and horizontal acceleration beyond the Tomcat's capability. The object was tracked on radar for approximately 35 minutes before departing at high speed. The event was reported in Iranian military channels and subsequently reached defense intelligence analysts monitoring Iranian air operations. The 2018 incident follows the pattern of the celebrated 1976 Tehran UAP intercept in which an Imperial Iranian Air Force F-4 Phantom crew experienced multiple system failures during an attempted intercept of a UAP. Iran's position as an adversary nation with its own air defense infrastructure that independently tracks anomalous aerial contacts provides a unique data point in the global UAP observation record — suggesting the phenomenon does not respect national boundaries or geopolitical alignments. The consistency between the 1976 and 2018 Tehran encounters, across 42 years and different political regimes, is notable.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • F-14 Tomcat crew scrambled for intercept — could not close on target
  • Iranian Air Defense radar track for 35 minutes confirmed
  • Pattern consistent with 1976 Tehran encounter 42 years earlier
  • Adversary nation military data — suggests UAP activity independent of geopolitical context
  • Reported through defense intelligence channels — reached US analysts
  • Object demonstrated altitude and acceleration beyond F-14 Tomcat capability

Gulf War UAP Reports — USCENTCOM Operational Records

Kuwait, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia theater of operations

During Operation Desert Storm, US and Coalition combat aircrews filed multiple reports of unidentified objects in the operational theater. USCENTCOM records, partially declassified, document objects that appeared on radar but did not match the transponder signatures of any Coalition aircraft. Several fighter pilots reported intercept attempts. The objects performed maneuvers that exceeded the capabilities of any known aircraft in the theater.

MQ-9 Reaper Donut-Shaped UAP — Middle East 2023

Middle East — USAF MQ-9 operational area

A USAF MQ-9 Reaper drone operating in the Middle East captured FLIR footage of a donut or torus-shaped metallic object hovering at altitude in 2023. The footage was included in AARO briefing materials and was among the cases presented to congressional oversight staff. The object appeared to have a hole through its center and metallic surface properties visible on infrared imaging.
