Iranian Air Force UAP Radar Intercept 2018

On October 12, 2018, Iranian Air Defense radar operators tracking Tehran airspace detected an unidentified object performing maneuvers in restricted airspace. An Iranian Air Force F-14 Tomcat crew was scrambled to investigate. The crew reported tracking the object, which demonstrated extreme altitude changes and horizontal acceleration beyond the Tomcat's capability. The object was tracked on radar for approximately 35 minutes before departing at high speed. The event was reported in Iranian military channels and subsequently reached defense intelligence analysts monitoring Iranian air operations. The 2018 incident follows the pattern of the celebrated 1976 Tehran UAP intercept in which an Imperial Iranian Air Force F-4 Phantom crew experienced multiple system failures during an attempted intercept of a UAP. Iran's position as an adversary nation with its own air defense infrastructure that independently tracks anomalous aerial contacts provides a unique data point in the global UAP observation record — suggesting the phenomenon does not respect national boundaries or geopolitical alignments. The consistency between the 1976 and 2018 Tehran encounters, across 42 years and different political regimes, is notable.
