AT A GLANCE

A disc-shaped craft hovered over Hanscom AFB's classified Electronic Systems Division for 40 minutes. EW technicians monitoring classified frequencies detected significant jamming emanations from the object. The craft disappeared vertically at the moment scrambled interceptors from Otis AFB reached visual range.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On October 27, 1975 — during the same remarkable two-week period that saw simultaneous intrusions at Strategic Air Command bases across the northern US and Canada — a disc-shaped craft appeared over Hanscom AFB in Massachusetts, home of the USAF Electronic Systems Division. Security police and EW technicians from the Electronic Warfare Directorate observed the craft hovering at 300–500 feet over the classified building complex for 40 minutes. EW monitoring technicians reported detecting strong jamming and probing emanations from the object across multiple classified frequency bands — suggesting active electronic intelligence collection. Hanscom tower tracked the object on radar throughout the encounter. Interceptors were scrambled from Otis AFB under Air Defense Command authorization. At the precise moment the interceptors came within visual range, the craft departed vertically at extreme speed with no sonic boom. The timing — occurring in a two-week period that included intrusions at Loring, Wurtsmith, Malmstrom, Minot, and other SAC bases — led to a comprehensive joint NORAD-Air Force investigation later released under FOIA.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • Electronic intelligence collection detected
  • 40-minute hover over EW directorate
  • 1975 SAC intrusion wave context
  • Jamming emanations recorded
  • Vanished at precise intercept moment

Edwards AFB — Test Pilots and Tower Report Disc

Edwards Air Force Base, California, USA

Edwards AFB control tower controllers and multiple F-104 Starfighter test pilots observed a metallic disc maneuvering over the base at high altitude. The object was tracked visually by tower personnel and by pilots in flight. Project Blue Book investigated and logged the case as 'unidentified.' The encounter is notable for occurring at the USAF's primary aircraft test facility with multiple trained military aviators as witnesses.

Minot AFB — B-52 Radar and Visual UAP Encounter

Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, USA

A B-52H crew and ground radar simultaneously tracked an unidentified object over Minot AFB's nuclear missile field. The object descended to 200 feet, disrupted radio communications, and was observed by base security near missile launch facilities. Project Blue Book closed the case as 'insufficient data' — later declassified Blue Book files show the radar returns were confirmed as real targets.

Ann Arbor / Dexter-Hillsdale Wave — USAF Swamp Gas Controversy

Dexter and Hillsdale, Michigan, USA

Over two nights in Michigan, approximately 100 witnesses including county sheriffs' deputies and a civil defense director observed disc-shaped craft at low altitude. USAF Project Blue Book sent Dr. J. Allen Hynek to investigate. Hynek's official explanation — 'swamp gas' — caused national ridicule and congressional outrage, directly triggering the Condon Committee investigation and Congressman Gerald Ford's formal congressional inquiry.
