China Wuhan Unidentified Object Shootdown 2023

In February 2023, while the US military was shooting down multiple unidentified objects over North American airspace (including the Chinese spy balloon and three additional unidentified objects), Chinese state media reported that Chinese civil aviation authorities had instructed flights to avoid the Wuhan airspace area due to an unidentified flying object being tracked by the People's Liberation Army Air Force. Chinese authorities prepared to shoot down the object. The near-simultaneous occurrence of unidentified object incidents across the United States and China in the same week — February 2023 — drew significant international intelligence community attention. The coordination coincidence and the apparent global increase in tracked unidentified aerial objects prompted intelligence community assessments. The Wuhan object was eventually tracked out of controlled airspace without a shootdown. The simultaneous US and Chinese unidentified object tracking events in the same week remain one of the most geopolitically significant UAP-adjacent events in recent history.
