Trindade Island Photo Analysis 1958

On January 16, 1958, Brazilian professional photographer Almiro Baraúna was aboard the Brazilian Navy survey vessel Almirante Saldanha conducting operations near Trindade Island in the South Atlantic as part of Operation Deepfreeze. When an unusual object appeared over the volcanic island, Baraúna captured four photographs as the crew of approximately 100 sailors and officers watched. The photographs show a Saturn-shaped disc with a prominent equatorial ring flying over the island. At the insistence of the naval crew, Baraúna developed the film immediately aboard the ship in front of naval officers, establishing a chain of custody. The Brazilian Navy conducted their own analysis and President Juscelino Kubitschek personally authorized release of the photographs to the press — making this one of the very few times a head of state directly authorized UAP evidence release. The Kodak laboratory that processed the final prints confirmed no signs of tampering. Multiple independent photographic analyses over decades have found the images consistent with a real airborne object of unknown type.
