AT A GLANCE

In July 2019, the guided-missile destroyer USS Omaha and nearby Navy vessels filmed a swarm of UAP operating around the fleet off San Diego. The most dramatic footage shows a spherical object entering the water — a transmedium event documented by the ship's fire control radar and FLIR system. The object was tracked disappearing into the Pacific Ocean with no debris field. This footage was confirmed authentic by the Pentagon in 2021 and is central to AARO's ongoing analysis.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

In July 2019, the guided-missile destroyer USS Omaha was operating approximately 100 miles off San Diego as part of a fleet exercise when its crew detected and filmed multiple unidentified spherical objects operating around the ship. One sequence of particular note captured by the ship's Forward-Looking Infrared (FLIR) system shows a spherical object — designated as a UAP for investigation purposes — approaching the water surface and appearing to enter the ocean. The ship's fire control radar tracked the object to the point of ocean entry. A search and rescue helicopter was dispatched to the entry point; no wreckage, debris, or evidence of an impact was found. The USS Rafael Peralta and other vessels in the area also observed objects during the same period. F/A-18 aircrews from carriers in the area reported similar observations. The footage and associated sensor data were submitted to the Navy's UAP Task Force and later to AARO. The Pentagon confirmed the authenticity of the USS Omaha footage in 2021 during the period of the UAP Task Force's public reporting. The transmedium aspect — a solid object apparently entering the water at speed and submerging without destruction — is considered by researchers and the Pentagon alike as one of the most significant capabilities implied by observed UAP events.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • FLIR footage of spherical UAP entering Pacific Ocean — transmedium event documented
  • Fire control radar tracked object to ocean entry point with no debris found
  • Search and rescue helicopter found no wreckage at entry coordinates
  • Multiple ships in fleet observed UAP during same period
  • Pentagon confirmed authentic in 2021 — central to AARO's analysis
  • F/A-18 aircrews from carrier also reported observations during same period

USS Kearsarge USO — AARO Documented Transmedium Case

Atlantic Ocean, Eastern Seaboard, USA

The USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) amphibious assault ship and USS The Sullivans (DDG-68) destroyer tracked unidentified spherical craft operating near and entering the Atlantic Ocean in July 2019. Multiple sensor systems across both ships confirmed the objects. The incident was reported to the UAP Task Force and is referenced in AARO's case database as a confirmed transmedium event. Crew members filed official Defense Department UAP reports.

USS Omaha USO Transmedium 2019

Pacific Ocean, off San Diego, California

USS Omaha's crew tracked a spherical UAP descend into the Pacific Ocean and disappear with no debris or oil slick. Footage captured by the ship's camera operator was later leaked and verified by the Pentagon. The 17-minute event was confirmed by USS Russell and multiple carrier group assets. The transmedium event is one of the most extensively documented military USO encounters in the modern era.

Sandia — Armed Forces Special Weapons Program Orb Encounters

Sandia Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA

Newly declassified Armed Forces Special Weapons Program records document 209 separate UAP sightings at Sandia Base, New Mexico — the nation's primary nuclear weapons facility — between 1948 and 1950. Witnesses, primarily military personnel, described orbs that performed high-speed maneuvers and, in several cases, appeared to explode. The proximity to classified nuclear infrastructure was assessed as a national security concern. The files are part of the May 2026 Pentagon archive release.
