AT A GLANCE

One of the most multi-layered confirmed UAP events in USAF history, occurring at Edwards Air Force Base — the US military's premier flight test center. A disc-shaped object was simultaneously tracked on tower radar, ground radar, and visually by two F-106 interceptor crews scrambled to intercept. The object demonstrated altitude changes from 3,000 to 12,000 feet and horizontal acceleration beyond the F-106's capability. The USAF classified the intercept reports and Project Blue Book listed the case as unknown.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On October 7, 1965, Edwards Air Force Base — home of the USAF Test Pilot School and the most sophisticated aviation instrumentation in the world — became the scene of a prolonged multi-sensor UAP confirmation event. An unidentified disc-shaped object was detected on Edwards tower radar and independently confirmed on ground radar. Two F-106 Delta Dart interceptors were scrambled. Both crews achieved visual and radar contact with the object, which was described as metallic and disc-shaped with a bright luminous quality. The object performed altitude changes between 3,000 and 12,000 feet during the 1 hour 20 minute event, accelerating horizontally when the interceptors closed. The F-106 crews, among the best-qualified pilots in the USAF, were unable to close on the object. The object eventually departed at high speed. Project Blue Book listed the case as 'unknown' — one of fewer than 700 cases in Blue Book's entire 22-year record to receive that classification. The significance of the location — at the USAF's own flight test center with maximum available instrumentation — and the performance characteristics observed made Edwards one of the most compelling institutional confirmations of genuine anomalous aerial phenomena in the Cold War record.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • Occurred at USAF flight test center — world's most capable aviation instrumentation
  • Simultaneous tower radar, ground radar, and visual confirmation
  • Two F-106 Delta Dart intercept crews — most qualified USAF pilots
  • Altitude range 3000–12000 ft with horizontal acceleration beyond F-106 capability
  • Project Blue Book classification: 'unknown' — fewer than 700 in entire 22-year record
  • USAF classified the intercept reports — significant at test center with cleared personnel

Minot AFB — B-52 Radar and Visual UAP Encounter

Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, USA

A B-52H crew and ground radar simultaneously tracked an unidentified object over Minot AFB's nuclear missile field. The object descended to 200 feet, disrupted radio communications, and was observed by base security near missile launch facilities. Project Blue Book closed the case as 'insufficient data' — later declassified Blue Book files show the radar returns were confirmed as real targets.

Nellis AFB Radar-Visual — Classified Test Range UAP

Nellis Air Force Base Test Range, Nevada, USA

Multiple tracking cameras and radar at the classified Nellis Test Range in Nevada recorded a white disc-shaped object performing extreme maneuvers over a period of approximately 30 minutes. The footage was obtained via a source and broadcast by a television network in 1995. USAF Nellis Range control confirmed the incident occurred and that the object was unidentified. The footage shows the object abruptly changing direction and speed in ways inconsistent with any known aircraft.

South Haven, Michigan — USAF Radar Visual Blue Book Unknown

South Haven, Michigan, USA

A disc-shaped object observed over South Haven, Michigan was simultaneously tracked by USAF radar and visually confirmed by law enforcement from multiple agencies. Project Blue Book classified the case as 'Unknown.' The radar returns showed the object performing maneuvers far beyond any known 1967 aircraft. The case is notable for the simultaneous police, sheriff, and USAF radar corroboration.
