AT A GLANCE

French engineer Renato Niccolai observed a disc-shaped craft land on his property. The French government's GEPAN office (official UAP investigation body within CNES) formally investigated the landing site. GEPAN's analysis found physical changes in the soil and vegetation at the landing site that could not be explained by natural causes — the most technically rigorous physical evidence analysis in the official French UAP record.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On January 8, 1981, Renato Niccolai, a 55-year-old engineer, observed a craft land on his property in L'Amarante near Trans-en-Provence in southeastern France (this case is distinct from the 1981 Trans-en-Provence case). GEPAN — the French government's official UAP investigation body within CNES — conducted an immediate investigation. GEPAN investigators collected soil and plant samples from the landing site and sent them to multiple independent French laboratories for analysis. The scientific analysis found: soil at the landing site had been compressed and heated; trace elements in the soil showed unusual chemical changes consistent with an electromagnetic or microwave energy source; vegetation at the site showed inhibited chlorophyll synthesis and abnormal growth patterns; the soil showed signs of being heated to between 300 and 600 degrees Celsius. These findings were published in GEPAN's official technical notes (Note Technique GEPAN #17) and shared with CNES's scientific committee. The GEPAN report stated that the physical evidence was inconsistent with any conventional explanation including hoax. The vegetation analysis was independently conducted by the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA). The GEPAN analysis of the Trans-en-Provence case is considered the most scientifically rigorous government analysis of physical landing trace evidence in any national UAP investigation archive.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • GEPAN (French CNES official body) conducted formal investigation — soil and vegetation samples analyzed
  • Soil analysis: compressed and heated to 300–600°C with unusual chemical trace element changes
  • Independent INRA (French National Agricultural Research Institute) confirmed vegetation analysis
  • Vegetation showed inhibited chlorophyll synthesis — inconsistent with any conventional explanation
  • Published in official GEPAN Technical Note #17 — peer-reviewed within CNES scientific framework
  • Most scientifically rigorous government physical landing trace analysis in any national UAP record

Trans-en-Provence — Physical Trace Landing, France

Trans-en-Provence, Var, France

A retired engineer observed a disc-shaped object land in his terraced garden in southern France. Physical trace evidence collected by French national police (Gendarmerie) was subsequently analyzed by GEPAN — the French government's official UAP investigation body — and found to include ground compression, scorched vegetation, and unusual biochemical changes in plant matter at the landing site. GEPAN's 1983 report remains one of the most rigorous official government UAP physical evidence analyses ever published.

Zimbabwe Air Force — Intercept Attempt on Disc

Harare, Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe Air Force Hawk jets were scrambled to intercept a structured metallic craft tracked by Harare ATC over central Zimbabwe. The object outperformed the interceptors at will, jamming their radar systems. The ZAF and Air Zimbabwe commercial pilots all filed formal reports. The Zimbabwean government acknowledged the event and briefed the UK Ministry of Defence.

Valensole Landing — French Gendarmerie Physical Evidence Report

Valensole, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France

Lavender farmer Maurice Masse observed a disc-shaped craft on his field with two small occupants. After his approach, one entity pointed a device at him causing temporary paralysis. The French Gendarmerie formally investigated, documenting ground traces including a concrete-hard depression where the craft landed, elevated calcium in the soil, and permanent damage to the lavender crop at the contact point.
