AT A GLANCE

Farmer Paul Trent photographed a metallic disc-shaped object near his farm in McMinnville, Oregon. The two photographs became the most analyzed UAP images in history — Project Blue Book, the Condon Committee, and independent photogrammetric analysts all concluded the images were genuine and not a hoax.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On the evening of May 11, 1950, Evelyn Trent noticed a disc-shaped object approaching from the northeast while feeding her rabbits. She called her husband Paul, who retrieved his camera and took two photographs before the object accelerated and disappeared. The images clearly show a metallic, slightly convex disc with an underside protrusion, hovering at an angle. Project Blue Book analyzed the photographs and was unable to offer a definitive explanation. The Condon Committee — the Air Force-sponsored scientific investigation of UFO reports — dedicated extensive analysis to the McMinnville photos in 1969 and concluded they showed 'a real object' that was 'extraordinarily difficult to explain in terms of present knowledge.' Photogrammetrist Dr. William Hartmann of the Condon team calculated the object was distant, large, and not a model suspended from nearby objects. The University of Colorado analysis found no evidence of fabrication. Subsequent analysis by Ground Saucer Watch using digital enhancement found no strings, supports, or compositing artifacts. The McMinnville photos have been in continuous scientific analysis for over 70 years and remain listed as 'unidentified' in the official Blue Book record.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • Two sequential photographs of metallic disc on same roll of film
  • Project Blue Book: 'unidentified' — no conventional explanation found
  • Condon Committee 1969: photographs showed a 'real object, extraordinarily difficult to explain'
  • Photogrammetric analysis confirmed object was distant and large — not a model
  • Digital image analysis: no strings, supports, or compositing artifacts detected
  • Most continuously analyzed UAP photographs in history — 70+ years of scientific review

Gimbal UAP — Rotating Object Against the Wind

U.S. East Coast (Atlantic), ~100 miles offshore

An F/A-18 Super Hornet ATFLIR pod captured a disc-shaped object visibly rotating against the direction of wind at 25,000 feet. The object moved into the prevailing wind and appeared to rotate continuously with no visible means of propulsion. DoD officially released the FLIR footage in 2020; AARO lists it as unresolved.

Farmington New Mexico — Fleet of 500 Discs

Farmington, New Mexico, USA

Approximately 500 Farmington, New Mexico residents simultaneously observed a massive fleet of hundreds of disc-shaped objects flying in formation overhead for 30 minutes. Three local newspaper reporters independently witnessed the event and filed reports. The objects were documented at high altitude traveling at high speed in formation, with individual objects breaking formation and rejoining. Project Blue Book declined to investigate.

Edwards AFB — Test Pilots and Tower Report Disc

Edwards Air Force Base, California, USA

Edwards AFB control tower controllers and multiple F-104 Starfighter test pilots observed a metallic disc maneuvering over the base at high altitude. The object was tracked visually by tower personnel and by pilots in flight. Project Blue Book investigated and logged the case as 'unidentified.' The encounter is notable for occurring at the USAF's primary aircraft test facility with multiple trained military aviators as witnesses.
