AT A GLANCE

An unidentified orb performed sustained maneuvers directly over the Korean DMZ for 30 minutes observed by both US and South Korean military forces. The incident created a temporary joint alert — both sides believed it was a provocation by the other. UN Command classified the resulting investigation.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On July 8, 1975, an unidentified luminous orb performed sustained maneuvers directly over the Korean Demilitarized Zone — one of the world's most heavily monitored military boundaries — for 30 minutes. US Army 2nd Infantry Division personnel and South Korean Army units on the southern side, and reportedly North Korean Army observers on the northern side, all observed the craft. The craft's hovering over the DMZ created an initial alert situation in which both sides believed the intruding craft was a provocation by the other. UN Command headquarters at Yongsan initiated a special investigation to prevent potential military miscalculation. Electronic warfare systems on both sides of the DMZ experienced anomalies during the overflight. The UN Command investigation established that neither the US, South Korea, nor North Korea controlled the craft. The classification of the resulting report at Top Secret under UN Command authority — a relatively rare classification level — reflected the potential for the incident to inflame the already tense peninsula situation.

Japan JSDF Radar UAP Detections — Parliamentary Disclosure

Japanese territorial airspace (multiple sectors)

In April 2023, the Japanese government disclosed to its Parliament (the Diet) that the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) had recorded multiple unidentified aerial objects detected by radar that could not be identified as any known aircraft or drone. The disclosure followed a formal parliamentary inquiry. Japan's Ministry of Defense established new UAP reporting protocols in 2020 and the 2023 disclosure represented the first formal parliamentary acknowledgment of operational UAP detections.

Korean War UAP Intercepts — USAF Combat Reports

Korean Peninsula and Yellow Sea, Korea

US Air Force and Navy combat pilots filed dozens of formal UAP encounter reports during the Korean War. B-29 bomber crews and fighter pilots described glowing orbs and structured craft performing extreme maneuvers in combat airspace. USAF Far East Air Force (FEAF) officially investigated and filed reports with Project Blue Book at Wright-Patterson AFB. Several cases were classified SECRET and are now available through NARA.
