DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On September 11, 1990, Hellenic Air Force F-104G Starfighters scrambled from Tanagra Air Base encountered a disc-shaped object at 20,000 feet over the Athens Flight Information Region. The pilots achieved brief visual contact with a structured metallic disc before the object performed a high-speed departure to the east. Athens civilian and military radar confirmed the contact. Greece filed a NATO incident report through standard NADGE procedures. The Hellenic Air Force, while not publicly disclosing the encounter, incorporated it into a growing domestic UAP investigation file that researchers obtained through Greek FOIA-equivalent legislation in the 2000s. The Greek file, when partially released, showed consistent patterns with Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Turkish military UAP encounters in the Mediterranean theater, contributing to the picture of sustained NATO-airspace UAP activity that allied nations were quietly accumulating since the 1950s.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS

The aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt documented multiple UAP encounters during 1952 operations. Journalist Wallace McGill, embedded aboard the carrier, witnessed and documented a UAP observation. Crew members reported structured disc-shaped objects. The incidents were reported to Naval Intelligence. The carrier's 1952 encounters are part of the broader 1952 UAP wave that included the Washington DC overflights and multiple Navy ship incidents.
