AT A GLANCE

A Chilean Navy helicopter crew filmed an unidentified object on infrared for approximately 9 minutes. The Chilean government's official UAP investigation body CEFAA analyzed the footage for two years and concluded the object was 'a highly accelerated, solid, hot object' that could not be identified as any known aircraft. The footage was released publicly by CEFAA in January 2017 with a formal statement confirming the object is unexplained.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On November 11, 2014, a Chilean Navy Cougar AS-532 helicopter on a routine patrol mission was filming the area with an infrared camera when the operator noticed an unidentified object ahead. The pilot confirmed the visual contact; the FLIR operator tracked the object for approximately 9 minutes. The object appeared hot relative to the background sky, moved at a similar speed to the helicopter (approximately 150 knots), and at two points released what appeared to be a trail or emission from its underside. The crew contacted radar control at Santiago Area Control Center; controllers confirmed no flight plan or known aircraft in the area. The footage was submitted to CEFAA — Chile's Committee for the Study of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena, an official government body within the Chilean Civil Aeronautics Directorate (DGAC) and the Chilean Air Force. CEFAA spent two years analyzing the footage, consulting meteorologists, aeronautical engineers, air traffic controllers, and military specialists. In January 2017, CEFAA Director General Ricardo Bermúdez released the footage publicly with an official statement: the object was 'a highly accelerated, solid, hot object' and 'a genuine UFO' — CEFAA's first use of that designation. CEFAA explicitly ruled out a drone, aircraft, balloon, or bird. The Chilean case attracted significant international attention because it came with an official government body's 'unidentified' determination.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • Chilean government body CEFAA formally analyzed footage for 2 years — official 'unidentified' determination
  • CEFAA Director publicly designated the object 'a genuine UFO' — first official CEFAA use of that designation
  • Object tracked on military FLIR infrared for 9 minutes — appears hot against ambient sky background
  • Santiago Area Control Center confirmed no flight plan or known aircraft in the area
  • Team of meteorologists, aeronautical engineers, and military specialists reviewed footage — no conventional explanation
  • CEFAA is an official body within Chile's Civil Aeronautics Directorate and Chilean Air Force

Valentich Disappearance — Pilot Vanishes Mid-Report

Bass Strait, Victoria, Australia

Australian pilot Frederick Valentich radioed Melbourne Air Traffic Control to report a metallic craft with a green light orbiting his Cessna over Bass Strait. His last transmission described the object hovering above him and his engine beginning to malfunction. A final metallic scraping sound was recorded on the ATC tape — then silence. Neither Valentich nor his aircraft was ever found. The Australian Department of Transport investigation found no explanation.

Trindade Island UAP — Brazilian Navy Official Photographs

Trindade Island, South Atlantic Ocean, Brazil

A disc-shaped craft was photographed by commercial diver and photographer Almiro Baraúna from the deck of the Brazilian Navy vessel Almirante Saldanha off Trindade Island. Approximately 40 Navy personnel witnessed the object. The Brazilian Navy officially released the photographs and Brazilian President Kubitschek confirmed their authenticity. The photographs were technically analyzed for decades and are among the most extensively examined UAP images in the official record.
