AT A GLANCE

During a Minuteman ICBM test launch at Vandenberg Air Force Base, a disc was observed hovering near the test missile in its trajectory. Ground-based radar tracked both the missile and the unidentified disc. The disc departed before the test could be observed to have been interfered with. The encounter during an active ICBM test created extreme security concerns and was classified at the highest level. The case was later referenced in connection with the pattern of UAP interest in nuclear delivery systems.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On September 15, 1969, during a Minuteman ICBM test launch at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California — the primary test launch site for US ballistic missiles — a disc-shaped object was observed in proximity to the test missile during its ascent phase. Ground-based tracking radar followed both the test missile and the unidentified contact. The disc appeared to pace the ascending missile before departing at high speed as the missile reached high altitude. Vandenberg launch control personnel and SAC security staff observed the craft. The encounter was classified at the highest level given the extraordinarily sensitive context of an ICBM test trajectory. The case was referenced in connection with the broader pattern of documented UAP interest in US nuclear delivery systems and was included in a classified summary of UAP-nuclear program encounters compiled in the early 1970s.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • During active ICBM test flight — most sensitive possible nuclear context
  • Tracked alongside test missile on ground radar
  • Disc appeared to pace ascending Minuteman during boost phase
  • Classified at highest level — ICBM test trajectory security
  • Referenced in classified summary of UAP-nuclear program encounters
  • Vandenberg — primary US ballistic missile test launch facility

Minot AFB — B-52 Radar and Visual UAP Encounter

Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, USA

A B-52H crew and ground radar simultaneously tracked an unidentified object over Minot AFB's nuclear missile field. The object descended to 200 feet, disrupted radio communications, and was observed by base security near missile launch facilities. Project Blue Book closed the case as 'insufficient data' — later declassified Blue Book files show the radar returns were confirmed as real targets.

Nellis AFB Radar-Visual — Classified Test Range UAP

Nellis Air Force Base Test Range, Nevada, USA

Multiple tracking cameras and radar at the classified Nellis Test Range in Nevada recorded a white disc-shaped object performing extreme maneuvers over a period of approximately 30 minutes. The footage was obtained via a source and broadcast by a television network in 1995. USAF Nellis Range control confirmed the incident occurred and that the object was unidentified. The footage shows the object abruptly changing direction and speed in ways inconsistent with any known aircraft.

South Haven, Michigan — USAF Radar Visual Blue Book Unknown

South Haven, Michigan, USA

A disc-shaped object observed over South Haven, Michigan was simultaneously tracked by USAF radar and visually confirmed by law enforcement from multiple agencies. Project Blue Book classified the case as 'Unknown.' The radar returns showed the object performing maneuvers far beyond any known 1967 aircraft. The case is notable for the simultaneous police, sheriff, and USAF radar corroboration.
