AT A GLANCE

One of the largest mass military UAP sightings during the Vietnam War. Hundreds of US military personnel at the Nha Trang logistical base observed a brilliant orb that hovered over the base, ascended vertically, and departed at extreme speed. The object caused vehicle engine stoppages across the base during its presence. The sighting was witnessed by both US and Vietnamese personnel over a 4-minute period. Several accounts were formally documented by US Army intelligence officers.

DECLASSIFIED DETAILS

On the evening of February 20, 1966, a brilliant luminous orb appeared over the US military logistics base at Nha Trang, South Vietnam. Hundreds of US military personnel — Army, Navy, and Air Force — observed the object hovering at what was estimated to be approximately 1,000 feet before performing a vertical ascent to extreme altitude and departing at high speed. During the object's presence over the base, multiple vehicle engines on the base stalled and stopped — only restarting after the object departed. Gasoline-powered generators also stopped. The mass observation included not only US military personnel but Vietnamese civilian workers on the base. Several witness accounts were formally recorded by US Army intelligence officers. The electromagnetic interference component — multiple simultaneous engine stoppages — combined with the hundreds of independent military witnesses in a combat zone (where observers have heightened situational awareness and lower tolerance for misidentification) made this one of the most significant Vietnam-era military UAP events. The case was among those later cited in analyses of the electromagnetic effects associated with UAP observations.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS
  • Hundreds of US military witnesses across Army, Navy, and Air Force branches
  • Multiple vehicle and generator engine stoppages during object's presence
  • Combat zone witnesses — heightened situational awareness, motivated accurate reporting
  • Electromagnetic interference component documented by multiple independent accounts
  • 4-minute visible event with vertical ascent to extreme altitude
  • US Army intelligence formally documented multiple witness accounts

Japan JSDF Radar UAP Detections — Parliamentary Disclosure

Japanese territorial airspace (multiple sectors)

In April 2023, the Japanese government disclosed to its Parliament (the Diet) that the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) had recorded multiple unidentified aerial objects detected by radar that could not be identified as any known aircraft or drone. The disclosure followed a formal parliamentary inquiry. Japan's Ministry of Defense established new UAP reporting protocols in 2020 and the 2023 disclosure represented the first formal parliamentary acknowledgment of operational UAP detections.

Korean War UAP Intercepts — USAF Combat Reports

Korean Peninsula and Yellow Sea, Korea

US Air Force and Navy combat pilots filed dozens of formal UAP encounter reports during the Korean War. B-29 bomber crews and fighter pilots described glowing orbs and structured craft performing extreme maneuvers in combat airspace. USAF Far East Air Force (FEAF) officially investigated and filed reports with Project Blue Book at Wright-Patterson AFB. Several cases were classified SECRET and are now available through NARA.
